This dramatic team jersey from the 1990 season was given a black background especially for the riders taking part in the Giro D'Italia.

The 1990's was without doubt the decade of sublimation.
Designers who had previously been pretty restricted on what they could achieve with wool jerseys with flocked and/or embroidered logos suddenly had much more freedom and all too often let their creativitly run a little too wild!
For much of the season, the Diana riders had a white background for their team jersey, fbut especially for the Giro D'Italia, a revised team jersey with a black background was used which I think improves the look of the jersey. Not that it seemed to have much effect on the results for the riders!
Whilst Gianni Bugno (Chateau d'Ax) wore the Maglia Rosa for the entire race, Zenon Jaskula was the best placed rider for the team finishing in 20th position overall. It's fair to say that Jaskula was similar to most of the other riders in the team - they all went on to have some decent results later in their careers!
Jaskula would go on to finish on the podium of the 1993 Tour de France, Gianluca Bortolai would podium at Paris-Roubaix, Giorgio Furlan was part of the Gewiss-Bianchi team that dominated an EPO-fuelled 1994 classics campaign and Flavio Vanzella would wear the yellow jersey at the 1994 Tour de France.
Finally, Lech Piasecki (previously with Del Tongo & Malvor-Sidi) was the first Polish rider to wear the leaders yellow jersey the Tour de France as well as sporting quite possibly the best moustache of the peloton for most of his cycing career!
