Seeing the Belgian National Champion jersey in action in the cobbled Claassics is one of my favourite sights in Spring.

Tom Steels was Belgian National Road Race Champion four times (1997, 1998, 2002, 2004) and also won 9 Tour de France stages. This jersey was made as a replica after he won the nationals in 2004.
Steels was a great sprinter, and had some fabulous races against Cipo, Zabel et al. He was also happy to play rough and got kicked out of the Tour when he threw his bidon (bottle) at Frederic Moncassin at the finish in stage 6 of the 1997 edition.
Steels retired from racing at the end of the 2008 season, having ridden his last season with Landbouwkrediet after a stint with Davitamon-Lotto in 2005/7.
