Open any book about Eddy Merckx or type in his name in an online search engine and the chances are you`ll see the best (male) cyclist of all time wearing a Molteni / Arcore jersey!
The now iconic design is synonymous with Merckx and despite the fact that he started his highly successful career with GS Solo-Superia and subsequently went on to ride for Peugeot, Faema, Fiat and C&A, Molteni is the one people remember him in.
The team wasn`t just Merckx though, they also boasted Gianni Motta and Marino Basso, who contributed over 80 wins between them, but it was Merckx that contributed the majority of the wins for the team that racked up over 600 victories.
In case you were wondering who the headline sponsor was, Molteni was a sausage manufacturer based in the town of Arcore, near Milan, Italy.
If you fancy emulating Eddy Merckx, why not take a look at the Molteni retro team jerseys and caps from Prendas Ciclismo made by Santini
